The same year Esmeralda Werbeck was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer was the year that A Glimmer of Hope began helping people worldwide improve the quality of their lives.  It was also the same year that Esmeralda's family began a life long friendship with the founders of A Glimmer of Hope.  In her final days, it was this life long friendship that would influence her decision to choose A Glimmer of Hope as the beneficiary of her memorial race.

The heart and soul of A Glimmer of Hope Austin is the love and compassion it has for young people and senior adults who suffer from exclusion, social injustice, neglect, abandonment and educational disadvantages.

The foundation is committed to improving their lives by supporting initiatives that address imbalances in the areas of health care, education, life skills, fine-arts, safety and basic needs.
